ADIRONDACK MOUSE

Here is a brief passage selected from Adirondack Mouse and the Mysterious Disappearance:
CHAPTER 18, WADSWORTH
“Who’s there?” a deep voice asked. “Who’s on my antler? Is that you Maggie?”
Adirondack’s mouth dropped open. A talking tree? What next?
“Sure and I’ll not be carrying on like that, your lordship,” a tiny voice answered.
Adirondack looked, but he couldn’t see anybody. “It’s me,” he said softly.
The branch or antler swung around. Adirondack grabbed the nearest twig and held on.
“Speak up, Sonny,” the deep voice said. “These ears don’t hear as well as they used to.”
“Ears?” Adirondack said. “I didn’t know trees had ears.”
A small laugh jingled like bells. “Did you hear that Darlin’? It thinks you’re a tree.”
Adirondack looked at what should have been the trunk of the tree. Instead of bark, thick brown hair covered the place beyond his branch. And something, not far from where he sat, wiggled back and forth like an ear.
Adirondack scampered closer to the ear. “Have you seen a mouse?” he asked.
